APPLY TODAY TO SHOW IN THE GALLERY!

Cornerstone Center for the Arts (CCA) is looking for artists of all types and levels to show in the Judith Barnes Gallery. Judith Barnes was the founder of Muncie Center for the Arts and had the vision for Cornerstone Center for the Arts and their mission of Access to the Arts for All.

The gallery was created to show works from students and artists in the surrounding area. A committee of diverse community members will evaluate the art along with the artist’s application to determine if it’s a good fit with CCA. All works and subject matter are welcome and CCA will not censor submissions, however some pieces may be shown in a more private setting based on the subject matter.

Typically gallery showings will be for one month including a First Thursday opening from 5 to 8 pm. The artist will be introduced at the First Thursday opening. The artist is not obligated to attend the opening but is strongly encouraged. CCA will ask the artist to speak for 5-10 minutes about their works and techniques on the First Thursday.

Collection Statement:

Resurrect is a collection of my art from the past ten years to present day. While curating my personal collection, I was inspired by my constant death and rebirth of self throughout my years as an artist. I am always growing, expanding, shedding skin, and being reborn, cyclically, throughout my life; however, no matter how hard or low I have fallen, how impossible the odds stacked against me have seemed, I always know that the struggles are a cleansing fire so like a phoenix I may rise again from the ashes of the lesson learned in an extravagant display of resilience.

I was once told by an old friend that they think I am a lot like a butterfly because butterflies scare off predators by imitating one with their painted wings- looking like a fearsome threat when in reality you are a flower loving pollinator. In this moment they helped me see my own work, Rise Above, in a new light. Butterflies have long been symbols of transformation, of life and death, but now I saw it a layer deeper- I have always found creative ways to protect myself and evolve, flying into the future despite my fears, warding off evil and preserving my inner artist.

I hope as you explore my collection you see my inner alchemy, transmuting immense pain into colorful, evocative artwork in an attempt to take the negativity of the world and use it to decorate the Earth. I aim to inspire and empower the masses so others remember the power of expressing their authentic voice, the power of allowing themselves to let the past die in order to have the freedom to soar into our highest selves, collectively.

As we step into Spring together, allow your spirit to resurrect from the harsh Winter and bloom in the warm light. It is time to Resurrect.
