Looking for something to do this summer? Cornerstone Center for the Arts has something for everyone. Cornerstone will offer multiple one-time workshops, camps, and events to keep you busy during the month of June. Upcoming workshops and camps include Monthly Dance Club, Bad Art Night at Cornerstone, Cornerstone at Books & Brews, Rock & Roll Summer Camp, Coffee & Paints, Pints & Paints at The Fickle Peach, and Summer Arts Camp.
Monthly Dance Club is a monthly social dance event at Cornerstone. Each event begins with an hour of dance instruction in swing, ballroom, salsa, or tango dancing led by instructor David Fennig followed by a few hours of open dancing. The next Monthly Dance Club is Saturday, June 2 from 7-10:30 p.m. and is $12 per person or $7 for students, no pre-registration is necessary for this event.
Bad Art Night will be at Cornerstone Center for the Arts on Thursday, June 7 at 6 p.m. for a special First Thursday edition of Bad Art Night. This collaboration between Cornerstone and Muncie Public Library encourages attendees to raid through a collection of arts and crafts supplies to make their very own disasterpiece. Guests are awarded for their tacky, terrible, and creepy art with various prizes. The event is free to attend with a suggested $5 donation to help with costs.
Cornerstone at Books & Brews is an all-new workshop which will feature a different class sampling from Cornerstone each month. The June 14 workshop will explore mixed media journaling with instructor Christine Whittemore. The registration fee of $20 includes the cost of supplies, instruction, and one drink. This workshop will take place at Books & Brews on June 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is open to ages 21 and up.
Rock & Roll Summer Camp will be held Monday, June 18 through Friday, June 22, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm with the camp concluding in a concert on Saturday, June 23. Campers, ages 11 to 17, will spend five days learning about being a musician, music theory, song writing, concert production, promotion, presentation, music business, stage presence, instrument care, recording and producing live sound, networking, and music appreciation. The final day will be spent setting up for and performing in the finale concert.
The next Coffee & Paints workshop will be on Saturday, June 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is open to students in the 4th grade through adults. Attendees who are experienced artists or are completely new to painting will enjoy creating in this relaxed atmosphere. Registration is $25 per person. June’s featured painting is an avocado.
Pints & Paints is a unique painting experience held at The Fickle Peach in Downtown Muncie. Attendees will enjoy two hours creating the featured painting at each workshop. The workshop is for ages 21 and up and includes one drink in the $25 registration fee. The next Pints & Paints will be on June 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature a painting of a rooster.
Summer Arts Camp in June will begin on Monday, June 25 and end Friday, June 29. Camp is held each day from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm and is open to kids ages 6 to 14. Participating students will enjoy a week of classes in the areas of visual arts, dance, theatre, martial arts, and more!
