Cornerstone Center for the Arts is preparing for a busy summer of art! The summer eight week class session begins the week of June 5 supplemented by various one time workshops and camps throughout June. June’s calendar consists of Coffee & Paints, Monthly Art Club, Pints & Paints at The Fickle Peach, Rock and Roll Summer Camp, Kids & Paints, Monthly Dance Club, Summer Arts Camp, and Bad Art Night.
Coffee & Paints is is open to students in the 4th grade through adults. Attendees who are experienced artists or are completely new to painting will enjoy creating in this relaxed atmosphere. Registration is $25 per person to attend with workshops on June 3 and 24. Photos of featured paintings are available on Cornerstone Center for the Arts’ Facebook page.
Monthly Art Club will be on Wednesday, June 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Cornerstone’s visual arts instructor, Lauren King, will lead the club with an hour of art appreciation and demonstration on the evening’s topic followed by open studio time. Monthly Art Club offers the opportunity to express yourself creatively while connecting with other artists. All supplies are provided in the $10 fee, which allows you free reign of Cornerstone's art studio. Monthly Art Club is open to ages 14 and up.
Pints & Paints is a unique painting experience held at The Fickle Peach in Downtown Muncie. Attendees enjoy two hours of creating a unique featured painting at each workshop. The workshop is for ages 21 and up and includes one drink in the $25 registration fee. Pints & Paints workshops will be on June 8 and 29. Rock and Roll Summer Camp will be at Cornerstone June 9 through 16. This immersive learning camp will teach students ages 11 through 17 the ins and outs of being in a band. No experience is necessary to attend, students are encouraged to bring instruments with them if they own their own. This camp is $200 per person to attend.
Kids & Paints allows children to create their own masterpiece. Attendees are guided step-by-step on how to paint the featured painting while having fun with friends and family. Each workshop is $25 per person and includes all supplies and instruction. The next Kids & Paints workshops are on June 9 for both two to six year olds and ages seven and up. Monthly Dance Club is a monthly social dance event at Cornerstone Center for the Arts. Each event begins with an hour of dance instruction in swing, ballroom, salsa, or tango dancing led by instructor David Fennig followed by open dancing. The event is a great way to spend a Saturday evening with friends while showing off already existing dance skills or learning a new dance form. The next Monthly Dance Club is June 17 and is $12 per person or $7 for students, no pre-registration is necessary for this event.
Cornerstone’s Summer Arts Camp is June 19 through 23 and with rotating classes each day in visual arts, theatre, martial arts, science, and technology. This camp is a fun way to keep students active in the summer while having fun and making new friends. Camp is $150 for one child of $90 per child when registering multiple children.
Bad Art Night will be at Maring-Hung Library on Thursday, June 29 at 6 p.m. This collaboration between Cornerstone and Muncie Public Library encourages attendees to raid through a collection of arts and crafts supplies to make art with very low expectations. Guests are awarded for their tacky, terrible, and creepy art with various prizes. The event is open to ages 18 and up and is free to attend with a suggested $5 donation to help with costs.
