Join Rebellyon Dance Troupe and Cornerstone Center for the Arts on Saturday, December 16, for the Winter Hafla and Fundraiser. A fabulous line up of belly dancers, including Cornerstone instructors and students, will showcase their skills to raise funds for the Arts Program at Cornerstone. This event is being hosted by Cornerstone belly dance instructor, Jenny Smithson, and Rebellyon Dance Troupe in support of Cornerstone.
The Hafla will take place at Cornerstone Center for the Arts in the Great Room located on the second floor. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m. The cost is $7 and children ages six and under are free. Tickets will be available at the door the night of the event. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Cornerstone’s financial aid scholarship fund.
The Hafla will include belly dance solo and troupe performances from Cornerstone students, local dancers, and groups from around the state. In addition to belly dancing performances, the event will feature a silent auction with donations from local businesses as well as belly dancing costumes and accessories.
Prior to the event, Jenny Smithson will teach a workshop entitled “It’s All About the Arms” from 2 to 3 p.m. about how to use your arms as the loudest part of your technique as an artist. Liz Wray will host a workshop from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. called “Veil Combos with Liz” that will teach veil techniques in the art of belly dancing. Workshops are $10 each and registration for the workshop is available at cornerstonearts.org/education.
