Cornerstone’s spring class session is in full swing. In addition to weekly classes, Cornerstone will offer a series of one-time workshops in April. April’s calendar consists of Monthly Dance Club, Coffee & Paints, Monthly Art Club, The Story Behind…, Pints & Paints, Bracelet Making, Kids & Paints, and Family Tree Painting.
Monthly Dance Club is a monthly social dance event at Cornerstone Center for the Arts. Each event begins with an hour of dance instruction in swing, ballroom, salsa, or tango dancing led by instructor David Fennig followed by open dancing. The event is a great way to spend a Saturday evening with friends while showing off already existing dance skills or learning a new dance form. The next Monthly Dance Club is April 1.
Coffee & Paints is similar to Pints & Paints but is held at Cornerstone Center for the Arts and is open to students in the 4th grade through adults. Attendees who are experienced artists or are completely new to painting will enjoy creating in this relaxed atmosphere. Registration is $25 per person to attend with workshops happening on Saturdays April 1, April 22, and May 13. Photos of featured paintings are available on Cornerstone Center for the Arts’ Facebook page.
Join Cornerstone Center for the Arts visual arts instructor, Lauren King, for Monthly Art Club on the first Wednesday of every month from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monthly Art Club offers the opportunity to express yourself creatively while connecting with other artists. All supplies are provided in the $10 fee, which allows you free reign of Cornerstone's art studio. Art Club will begin with an hour of demonstration/lesson focusing on that evening's topic followed by a few hours of open studio/creation time. The first Monthly Art Club is on Wednesday, April 5 and is open to ages 14 and up.
The Story Behind… is a panel discussion of some of the unique people and places in Muncie history. The program will feature photographs, maps, building plans, and diary entries of some of the people and unique places in Muncie. The panelists will provide interesting, little-known stories about the historic architecture and colorful characters in Muncie history—the Fieldhouse, the historic courthouses, city founders, and prominent leaders like Hurley Goodall. The Story Behind… is on Thursday, April 13 at 6 p.m.
Pints & Paints is a no commitment painting experience held at The Fickle Peach in Downtown Muncie. Attendees enjoy two hours of creating a unique featured painting at each workshop. The workshop is for ages 21 and up and includes one drink in the $25 registration fee. Spring Pints & Paints dates are Thursdays April 13, April 27, and May 11. Photos of upcoming paintings are available on Cornerstone Center for the Arts’ Facebook page.
The Bracelet Making workshop is free to attend. Attendees will make their own bracelet with Cornerstone’s supplies of various beads. Learn to combine different styles of beads to create a unique fashion item. Students will leave with at least one bracelet. This workshop is on Saturday, April 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. and is open for ages 14 and up.
Kids & Paints allows children ages seven and older to create their own masterpiece. Attendees are guided step-by-step on how to paint the featured painting while having fun with friends and family. Parents are encouraged to join the workshop for a family fun night! Each workshop is $25 per person and includes all supplies and instruction. The next Kids & Paints workshop is April 21. Photos of featured paintings are available on Cornerstone Center for the Arts’ Facebook page.
The Family Tree Painting workshop is a new offering at Cornerstone on April 29. Students in the 9th grade through adults will enjoy creating a mixed media painting using photos, important dates, names, and sayings to create a unique family tree. This is a great workshop for anyone who is nostalgic, interested in genealogy, newlywed, or first-time parents.
