January Workshops at Cornerstone
January 02, 2018
It is a new year why not try something new at Cornerstone Center for the Arts! Cornerstone’s spring 12 week classes begin the week of February 5 but there are plenty of one-time workshops and events to keep you busy during the month of January. Upcoming workshops and events include Monthly Dance Club, The Art of Getting Crafty at Guardian Brewing Co., Bad Art Night, Coffee & Paints, Kids & Paints, Party Like a Princess, and Pints & Paints at The Fickle Peach.
Monthly Dance Club is a monthly social dance event at Cornerstone. Each event begins with an hour of dance instruction in swing, ballroom, salsa, or tango dancing led by instructor David Fennig followed by a few hours of open dancing. The event is a great way to spend a Saturday evening with friends while showing off already existing dance skills or learning a new dance form. The next Monthly Dance Club is Saturday, January 6 at 7 p.m. and is $12 per person or $7 for students, no pre-registration is necessary for this event.
Bad Art Night will be at Cornerstone on Thursday, January 11 at 6 p.m. This collaboration between Cornerstone and Muncie Public Library encourages attendees to raid through a collection of arts and crafts supplies to make art with very low expectations. Guests are awarded for their tacky, terrible, and creepy art with various prizes. The event is open to ages 18 and up and is free to attend with a suggested $5 donation to help with costs.
Coffee & Paints will be on Saturday, January 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is open to students in the 4th grade through adults. Attendees who are experienced artists or are completely new to painting will enjoy creating in this relaxed atmosphere. Registration is $25 per person; photos of featured paintings for the spring are available on Cornerstone Center for the Arts’ Facebook page.
Kids & Paints is a painting workshop designed especially for children ages 7 and up. Adults are welcome to join and paint alongside their children as well; this class is all about having fun. An additional registration and registration fee is required for adults wishing to paint. No registration is needed for those who only want to observe the painting fun. This workshop is on Saturday, January 20, from 1 to 2 p.m. and registration is $15. Photos of featured paintings for the spring are available on Cornerstone Center for the Arts’ Facebook page.
Every little girl dreams of being a princess! Make your child’s dreams come true by signing them up for Party Like a Princess on Saturday, January 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. This one of a kind princess workshop will include themed crafts, games, and dancing. The workshop is open to age’s three to seven and is $15 per child.
The Art of Getting Crafty at Guardian Brewing Co. will be on Tuesday, January 23 from 6-7:30 p.m. Attendees will be making a unique piece of framed collaged wall art. In this workshop, attendees will learn basic concepts of composition, collage techniques, and look at examples of collage art from throughout history. Each participant will leave with a piece of unique, handmade wall art to keep or give as a gift. The workshop will be at Guardian Brewing Co. located at Madjax Muncie and registration is $20, which includes one drink and supplies to make the craft. Registration is open to ages 21 and up.
Pints & Paints is a unique painting experience held at The Fickle Peach in Downtown Muncie. Attendees enjoy two hours of creating a unique featured painting at each workshop. The workshop is for ages 21 and up and includes one drink in the $25 registration fee. The next Pints & Paints will be on Thursday, January 25.
