November Workshops at Cornerstone

November is just around the corner, with the cold weather arriving it’s time to plan some fun indoor activities. Cornerstone Center for the Arts will offer various one-time workshops during the month of November. Upcoming workshops include 100 Women in Muncie History, Dance/Technology for (Beginner) Adults, Monthly Dance Club, Bad Art Night at Cornerstone, Inspired by the Masters, Studying Indiana with Maps, Pints & Paints at The Fickle Peach, Coffee & Paints, and Dance/Technology for (Advanced) Adults.

100 Women in Muncie History will be presented on Thursday, November 1 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Facilitators Jessica Jenkins, Susan Smith, Karen Vincent, Karen Good, and Melissa Gentry will host this free community forum to research and discover some of the outstanding women in the history of Muncie. The goal of the event is to record and recognize the lesser known women in the history of Muncie.

Cornerstone has collaborated with PlySpace to present a series of free dance/technology workshops this fall. Dance/Technology Workshop for (Beginner) Adults will be on Saturday, November 3 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. led by PlySpace resident artist Linda Ryan. Attendees will try out a variety of gadgets and systems and learn some dance steps to use with them. No dance experience is necessary. This workshop is free and open to ages 16 and up.

Monthly Dance Club is a monthly social dance event at Cornerstone. Each event begins with an hour of dance instruction in swing, ballroom, salsa, or tango dancing led by instructor David Fennig followed by a few hours of open dancing. The next Monthly Dance Club is Saturday, November 3 from 7 to 10:30 p.m. and is $12 per person or $7 for students, no pre-registration is necessary for this event.

Bad Art Night will be at Cornerstone Center for the Arts on Thursday, November 8 at 6 p.m. This collaboration between Cornerstone and Muncie Public Library encourages attendees to raid through a collection of arts and crafts supplies to make their very own disasterpiece. Guests are awarded for their tacky, terrible, and creepy art with various prizes. The event is free to attend with a suggested $5 donation to help with costs.

Inspired by the Masters is a brand new workshop at Cornerstone. Learn to paint like a famous artist in this series of workshops featuring a lesson in information about the featured artist, the style they paint in, the history of that style, and the artist’s impact. The instructor will also lead students in creating their own painting inspired by the artist! The next Inspired by the Masters workshop will be on Saturday, November 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. and is just $25 to attend. November’s featured artist is Jackson Pollock.

Studying Indiana with Maps will be on Tuesday, November 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Melissa Gentry will lead this free workshop featuring maps showcasing Indiana’s role in politics, war, industry and innovation, and arts and culture. This workshop is presented in partnership with Ball State University Libraries’ GIS Research and Map Collection.

Pints & Paints is a unique painting experience held at The Fickle Peach in Downtown Muncie. Attendees will enjoy two hours creating the featured painting at each workshop. The workshop is for ages 21 and up and includes one drink in the $25 registration fee. The next Pints & Paints will be on Thursday, November 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The featured painting for November is a brightly colored peacock feather.

The next Coffee & Paints workshop will be on Saturday, November 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is open to students in the 4th grade through adults. Attendees who are experienced artists or are completely new to painting will enjoy creating in this relaxed atmosphere. Registration is $25 per person. November’s featured painting is a white tiger.
