May Workshops at Cornerstone

Cornerstone Center for the Arts’ spring classes are wrapping up but there are still plenty of ways to let your creativity soar this May. The organization will offer multiple one-time workshops including Monthly Dance Club, Bad Art Night, Pop Up Dance with Katie Cannon, Pints & Paints at The Fickle Peach, Girls Night Out – Jewelry Making, Coffee & Paints, and Pop Up Fitness with Katie Cannon.

Monthly Dance Club is a monthly social dance event at Cornerstone. Each event begins with an hour of dance instruction in swing, ballroom, salsa, or tango dancing led by instructor David Fennig followed by a few hours of open dancing. The next Monthly Dance Club is Saturday, May 4 from 7 to 10:30 p.m. and is $12 per person or $7 for students, no pre-registration is necessary for this event.

Bad Art Night will be at Cornerstone on Thursday, May 9 at 6 p.m. This collaboration between Cornerstone and Muncie Public Library encourages attendees to raid through a collection of arts and crafts supplies to make their very own disasterpiece. Guests are awarded for their tacky, terrible, and creepy art with various prizes. The event is free to attend with a suggested $5 donation to help with costs.

Join esteemed dance instructor Katie Cannon for a Pop Up Dance workshop on Friday, May 10 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May’s workshop will focus on hip hop dance. Participants will learn a short routine at each workshop. Registration is $10 per person per workshop.

Pints & Paints is a unique painting experience held at The Fickle Peach in Downtown Muncie. Attendees will enjoy two hours creating the featured painting at each workshop. This workshop is for ages 21 and up and includes one drink in the $25 registration fee. The next Pints & Paints will be on Thursday, May 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature a springy hummingbird and flower painting.

Ladies, grab your best gal pal and join us at Cornerstone for a fun night of jewelry making on Friday, May 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. During Girls Night Out – Jewelry Making participants will create unique jewelry pieces using handmade paper beads, combining traditional jewelry techniques with today’s fashion trends. Registration is just $20 per person and includes all supplies and instruction. 

The next Coffee & Paints workshop will be Saturday, May 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is open to students in the 4th grade through adults. Attendees who are experienced artists or are completely new to painting will enjoy creating in this relaxed atmosphere. Registration is $25 per person. May’s featured painting features a colorful bouquet of flowers.

If you cannot join Katie for pop up dance then maybe pop up fitness will be more for you. The next Pop Up Fitness workshop led by Katie Cannon will be on Saturday, May 18 from 1 to 2 p.m. May’s workshop will focus on Pilates. Registration is $10 per person per workshop.

The reception will take place in the Judith Barnes Memorial Gallery on the second floor of Cornerstone from 5 to 7 p.m. in conjunction with November’s First Thursday events.

Tricks and treats will be had on Thursday, October 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. as Cornerstone’s Colonnade Room is transformed into a spooky lair of fun and games.

Cornerstone Center for the Arts is excited to announce a new entertainment series launching this fall. Performances @ Cornerstone is presented in partnership with Ball State University’s School of Music, Department of Theatre & Dance, and The Harmony Players. The series will consist of free biweekly performances on Sundays at 2 p.m. in the E.B. Ball Auditorium at Cornerstone.
