February Workshops at Cornerstone

Monthly Dance Club is a monthly social dance event at Cornerstone. David Fenning, Cornerstone dance instructor and director of the Harmony Dance Group, puts on a hour of dance instruction in swing, ballroom, salsa, or tango dancing. After the instruction the floor is yours. Those who participate will have two to three hours of open dancing. Admission for the Monthly Dance Club is $12 per person and $8 for students and children ages 10 and up. No pre-registration is necessary for this event. This is a great event to make new friends, take a date, or just get your energy out. Rock & Roll Winter Workshop is for students ages 11 - 17. This workshop gives students the chance to learn about being a musician, music theory, songwriting, concert production, promotion, presentation, music business, stage presence, instrument care, recording and producing live sound, networking, and music appreciation. The workshop will be held on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. beginning on Saturday, February 3 with the camp concluding in a concert on Sunday, March 4. This immersive program encourages guitarists, drummers, bassists, singers, keyboardists, and DJs of all skills will spend six days learning about taking their love of music to the next level. Students will be split into groups by their previous skill level: basic, intermediate, and advanced. Groups will form bands and will work on songs to perform for the end of workshop concert. Students should plan to bring any instruments/amplifiers they own to the workshop. If a child does not own any of their own instruments, a limited number will be available to borrow or students new to music will be trained in other various aspects of band and music management. February 5 - 8 new classes start here at Cornerstone. There are classes for everyone! You can get involved with one of our multiple fitness classes and keep up with that New Year’s Resolution. You can hone and develop your artistic side in our Farmhouse Vintage class. While you are in class your child(ren) can be learning how to perform on stage or how to play the piano. Bad Art Night will be at Maring-Hunt Library on Thursday, February 15 at 6:00 p.m. This collaboration between Cornerstone and Muncie Public Library encourages attendees to raid through a collection of arts and crafts supplies to make art with very low expectations. Guests are awarded for their tacky, terrible, and creepy art with various prizes. The event is open to ages 18 and up and is free to attend with a suggested $5 donation to help with costs.

Heroes of Black History: Great Escapes is a presentation that will feature stories and maps about men and women who escaped from slavery in the south prior to the Civil War. This presentation will feature custom maps created by the Ball State University Libraries GiS Research and Map Collection. This presentation is free for attendees and will be held on Thursday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m. For more information check out the event here.

Coffee & Paints will be on Saturday, February 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is open to students in the 4th grade through adults. Attendees who are experienced artists or are completely new to painting will enjoy creating in this relaxed atmosphere. The Oh That’s Funny! Theatre Workshop will cover both stand-comedy and improvisational comedy. Attendees will learn how to write and perform jokes as well as learn the fundamentals of improvisation. This workshop will be on Saturday, February 17 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  This workshop is for students ages 16 to adult. Registration for this class is $20. Sign up online or by phone at 765-281-9503.

Pints & Paints is a unique painting experience held at The Fickle Peach in Downtown Muncie. Attendees enjoy two hours of creating a unique featured painting at each workshop. The workshop is for ages 21 and up and includes one drink in the $25 registration fee. The Mask Making workshop will be held Saturday, February 24 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. In this one time workshop children will learn how to make their own fun masks for theatre or story time. Children ages 5 - 10 will create and design their own masks with the guidance of instructor Minda Johnson.  The cost for this workshop is $15 and all supplies are included.Register online or by phone at 765-281-9503.

Fall Celebration
Fall Celebration

Cornerstone Center for the Arts will conclude its current class session with its Fall Celebration on Sunday, December 8. This recital will include dance and music performances as well as a martial arts demonstration, and a student art gallery. Celebration will also include special recognition of outstanding members of the Cornerstone community. The recipients of the Beth Turcotte Arts Education Achievement Award, the Judith Barnes Spirit of Service Award, and the Robert and Beverly Terhune Corporate Champion will be honored during the Celebration.

Cornerstone Center for the Arts will participate in the Giving Tuesday movement on Tuesday, December 3. Giving Tuesday is a worldwide day dedicated to strengthening communities, encouraging giving and celebrating generosity. Each year, Giving Tuesday takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick-off holiday giving. Local communities are encouraged to participate at the individual, nonprofit and corporate levels.
